Quite simply, make sure that the text "works" on a purely functional level.
Final testing of links, pop-ups, paging, and interactive displays is a start, but it should be taken as a given that users will find bugs that the author has missed. A well-mixed test group is essential in the evaluation process. This group should include readers that range from "experts" in the subject, familiar with the workings of interactive texts, to utter novices, sure to abuse the text in every conceivable way. Most importantly, the test group should include a representative sampling of the intended audience. Be prepared for "bugs" that
demand a critical rethinking of certain parts of the text.
